"Abandon Ship"

May 20, 2006 / by AngryRepublican

I must give credit where credit is due.

Democrats, (and liberals) understand something conservatives have yet to learn.

Unity.

I can remember during the heat of the President Clinton and Monica scandal, Bill Clinton's poll numbers actually shot up. Clinton went from the mid-30's, to an approval rating of 52 percent.

I remember thinking to myself, "this must be blind loyalty." I can see now I was wrong.

Unity is about sticking with a cause, through good times and bad times, because that cause is so important to you. It transcends one individual, Bubba Clinton. Because the cause is the goal, not one person.

I remember when things looked bad for President Reagan. During the Iran-Contra hearings, plus, Reagan was refusing to meet with Russian leaders on nuclear arms talks. Many people, who voted for Reagan, abandoned him. Reagan's poll numbers dropped into the thirties. (I was not one of those people, I stick by the person I voted for. Until it is proven in a court that the president committed a crime or the president blatantly goes against election promises.)

I see many people who abandoned Reagan during those low times. Today, they are praising Reagan as one of the last great American leaders.

As The Angry Republican.. I say: "Hypocrites."

I am very lucky. I have no sponsors paying to advertise on this site. I can say what I feel and not worry if a sponsor will pull an ad, causing me to go broke. I have never been concerned with my visitor count. It is just not important. To me, this is a part-time hobby.

So I listen to Bill O'Reilly, (for over a year) asking Bush to use the National Guard to enforce the border with Mexico. So, Bush uses the Guard. O'Reilly believes 6,000 is not enough.

"O'Reilly.. This isn't a magical genie that will only grant you one wish. If 6 thousand troops are not enough, we can always add more." Why send down scads of troops. In disarray, trying to get organized. Send a small force to get things rolling. If more are needed, more will be sent. Bush said: "We do not yet have full control of the border and I am determined to change that."

I listen to Ann Coulter complain that there is no punishment for employers who hire illegals. Let's follow this logic through.

Congress makes it illegal to hire non-Americans to do work. You get a big-fat fine and jail time. Farmer Joe, (we will call him) used illegal aliens to grow and pick "squats." (squats- a made up vegetable for this article.) Farmer Joe does not want to go to jail, so farmer Joe quits growing "squats" and grows corn because he can harvest corn by machine. (Not much manual labor involved.)

American farmer Paul uses American people to pick "squats", but the cost triples.

Mr. and Mrs. America goes to the local grocery store and sees the price of "squats" has tripled, but the price of corn has gone down. They by corn instead of "squats."

Farmer Paul goes out of business. He cannot sell "squat."

Mexico, (or an American company in Mexico) decides they can sell "squat." They grow "squat" in Mexico. They use Mexican trucks to deliver "squat" in the US. (legal, by way of NAFTA) Hundreds of American truck drivers, (who use to deliver American "squat") are now unemployed. Managers, bookkeepers, farm and garden suppliers.. Thousands of American people who use to handle American "squat" are unemployed.

Mr. and Mrs. America goes to the local grocery store and sees the Mexican "squat" priced to where they can afford it. They are sick of corn, so they buy the Mexican "squat."

Congratulations.. We have just helped another American company leave America.

Now America doesn't make "squat."

Instead of making it illegal to hire a non-American as a "sub-contractor." Enforce the law that is already on the books. Why make Farmer Joe enforce the border. Enforcement is work better suited for the police. When you "sub-contract" a plumber to fix something in your house, do you ask if the plumber is paying all taxes that he should be paying? Do you check the plumber's driver's license to see if he is a citizen of the US?

Why FORCE private homeowners and business people to enforce the border laws so that we can pretend to have an open border with Mexico. When we do not have an open border with Mexico (by law). But we do have an open border (In reality)!

Do you follow that?

Folks..

This is not a quick fix to help poll numbers. This is a well thought out solution to a problem that four American Presidents let go on for decades.

As always, Bush took time to come up with a plan that had elements the conservatives were asking for and liberals were demanding.

Again..

I must give credit to the democrats. The unity you have is truly amazing. The conservatives lack of unity is our weak spot.

It is one tool that you liberals can use to bring us down.

I don't believe that there's a lack of unity among conservatives. The re-election of President Bush to a second term is proof. [HUH]
  • nobullthinker said 2 years ago
The re-election of Bush is only evidence of the horrifying alternative to re-electing Bush - electing John Kerry. If the Democrats had put up someone half way decent - even half human, I, a strict conservative, might have voted for him.

    Thanks for the comment!

I agree (butterfly40) that the 2004 election showed a little unity. Bush ran one of the worst-lack luster campaigns I have seen in years. During the first debate, it looked like Bush was going to fall asleep. So, conservatives did turn-out and vote.

    However,
Had democrats run a candidate with a pulse, they would have won.

[SMILE] Just because liberal Democrats march in mindless lockstep does not mean conservatives and Republicans should do likewise. If Bush or our Republican leadership err, we should loudly protest.

I can agree on the "mindless following" aspect.
My question is "what error" took place?

Bill O'Reilly has asked for the Guard to secure the border. Bush sends the guard. O'Reilly says Bush didn't send enough troops (Sob-Sob)
Ann Coulter, (Who I enjoy reading) is mad because we are not throwing American business people in jail. (Sob-Sob)
I hear another "conservative", angry because we are not throwing 12 million aliens out of America. Until that conservative took a call from a sobbing immigrant who has been in America for 12 years. She works two jobs, she loves America and she is afraid to go back to her old country. She will starve there. This conservative told this immigrant to get a lawyer and she shouldn't have to go back.

Hello… Didn't you just say you wanted to kick 12 million illegals out of America..?? Now you are telling an illegal to "get a lawyer" and she "shouldn't have to go back."

There is no unity here!! You do not see what I am talking about..??

The goal Ed, is to give conservatism a stronghold in America. We have added more conservative judges to the bench. This is a big help. We are fighting terrorism now, the way it should have been done 15 years ago. We are now taking steps to secure the border with Mexico. That too, should have been done decades ago.

Bill Clinton did not win the 1992 election. He only received 42 percent of the vote. Conservatives LOST the 1992 election because we split over Ross Perot and Bush.

Conservatives do not (yet) understand the importance of unity to achieve a goal.
  • theinvestigator said 2 years ago
Agreed. I would venture to say that 75% of Perot's votes came from conservatives that did not like being lied to. And, a fair amount came from those that were not happy with Bush's one world government.
  • nobullthinker said 2 years ago
There is a modicum of truth in your economic analysis. But if Mexico can produce squat cheaper than we can, so be it. Let them do so and keep their people employed and on their own side of the border. Fair trade could help both nations.
  • AngryRepublican said 2 years ago
    True!

If we believe in the "one world", globalization stuff. Where I come from, the former steel mill capital of America. The "rust belt." Home of the Pittsburgh Steeler's..

A big topic is: "Why are American companies leaving America..??"

I was trying to give one example. Though farmer Joe had non-Americans picking "squat." Joe paid American truck drivers to deliver squat. He paid taxes. Capital gains taxes. He bought goods from an American Farm and Garden supplier. He needed equipment from John Deere or Ford.

There are thousands of Americans effected by moving a "squat" farm from the US- to Mexico. Not to mention we can control pesticide levels in the US. In Mexico, we have no authority.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • AngryRepublican said 2 years ago
Farmer Joe ends up selling corn and does well. He makes enough money selling corn to alternative fuel companies that he can buy a big house next to Ted Kennedy.

It's farmer Paul who can't grow "squat". He ends up in the poor house.

The time is coming soon. Lincoln was so correct that you can't fool all of the people all of the time. I truly love your Mexico analogy. Like the polls, it is finally all heading south. Stop the crap about how GW came up with a wonderful plan to solve the border problem. In six years, using your word, SQUAT. As the polls dropped into 20's he held a finger to the wind and decided his staunchest followers had to be disobeyed. He hust angered the left and the right. It didn't help. It's over Angryrepublican. George W. Bush is no longer able to govern. His biggest worry now should be that if a Democratic sweep of both houses takes place (Polls now show it could happen) he may be out of job prematurely.
Now I haven't quite made up my mind about Hillary yet but it would be nice reading your hate mail should she win. Ladies and gentlemen may I intoduce you to (select one) Ambassador to the UN-Secretary of State-All around horny guy with nothing to do) President William Jefferson Clinton.
  • AngryRepublican said 2 years ago
    You might be right Howard,
There could be a sweep in the house and senate if conservatives do not come together. I am actually excited to see the possible match-up of Hillary Clinton VS Al Gore in the 2008 primaries.

After those two tear each other apart, republicans may just need a warm body with a pulse to win.[MAD]
  • theinvestigator said 2 years ago
Just because Geo. Wimp Bush's ratings may fall to zero doesn't mean that a single republican, and diffinately not a conservative, will vote for a democrat. Chances are they might not even stay home from the polls. So, don't go getting giddy and contemplating what you might wear to the inauguration ball. The discontent won't vote for the incompetent, just those that are fools some of the time.
