Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews- fired

September 8, 2008 / by AngryRepublican

There has been a little sociological experiment taking place on American TV.

With the success of Fox News, holding its number one spot in cable news ratings for many years, NBC tried to copy this formula. (With one exception…)

A left turn.

A very WIDE- political left turn with it's cable equivalent- MSNBC.

The sociological experiment didn't work out.

Though NBC will not admit to becoming more liberal, and MSNBC did see hirer ratings during the conventions, what they will not admit is:

All three cable news outlets saw higher ratings during the two presidential conventions and MSNBC remained firmly- in last place.

The Experiment-

Take Chris Matthews- A former democratic staff worker and host of the TV show "Hard Ball" and place him in the "anchor chair" along with former sports caster Keith Olbermann, (the liberal host of the TV show- "Countdown") and have the two report on the 2008 election.

"The experiment" fell apart almost at the start as Keith Olbermann began to fight with others who would "steal" his camera time. Commenting once that Chris Matthews took too long to make his point.

The MSNBC anchor feud got so bad that even Jon Stewert of "The Daily Show" asked NBC News anchor- Brian Williams: "What's going on at MSNBC? Is anyone in control over there, or is it like Lord of the flies..??"

NBC has been trying to distance itself from MSNBC. But I can tell you- BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN INSIDE NBC studios: If you are standing inside the "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" studio room, if you look to your left, down a series of glass windows, you can see one of MSNBC's main studio rooms.

They are linked together sharing some tech people. Like brother and sister. (Or mother and child.)

The pressure got to NBC and they have fired Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews.

(Aaahh- fired them from the anchor chair.)

Both Keith and Chris will continue to host their shows- Countdown and HardBall. But they will no longer anchor the MSNBC election coverage.

I hate to see anyone knocked down a peg or two. Considering that it was fun to watch Keith Olbermann yell because someone took too much of Keith's "camera time."

Too bad…

Whenever the coverage of the election got boring on Fox or CNN, I would tune into MSNBC to see what Keith Olbermann was crying about today.

MSNBC replaced Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann with...David Gregory?

Yeah, that'll earn them instant credibility.  Because...you know,  David Gregory is fair, balanced and objective.   And most of the time, he's even sober!!!

Two down a few more commentators to go.

A pair of pox's on America. They're not commentators. They're contaminators.

Angry, These "cat fights" are not unusual between Prima Donnas like Matthews and Olbermann.  I seem to remember last summer during the debates that Larry King complained on an open mike about Anderson Cooper getting more airtime with his panel than he did and he wanted to know why.

Someone should have told him that it is because people would rather watch a "sexy hunk" than an old "Crypt Keeper" any day.  No matter what his qualifications are.

I read an article this morning about this.  I don't watch MSNBC, so I missed the fun.  It seems that the NBC powers were so upset about the coverage of the convention that they almost flew to MN to relieve these folks.  It had to be bad.

This is also supposed to make us think that NBC isn't as left-leaning as MSNBC.  Yeah, and tomorrow the Easter Bunny will come down the chimney and leave me a nickel for the tooth I lost.
