"Mommy, Can We Have a Jihad.?"

October 28, 2006 / by AngryRepublican

Warning..

This is one of those extremely long AR posts. You may want to take along water and bread to survive, before you start reading this.

"Mommy, can we have a Jihad..??"

Are some of the school systems in America turning your child to radical Islam..??

Some parents are asking this question. In an attempt to show a multi-culture attitude, some school textbooks have added teachings on the Muslim religion. Some classrooms have added a "Muslim Day" where kids dress up like their favorite little "Jihad." Which is kind of odd to me because I fight all the time with liberals, here at Blogster, who demand that there be a separation between church and state. Mainly in the school system, but also in the public.

I have always wondered if many liberals are more concerned with keeping Christianity out of US schools, but not caring- or worrying much if the other "worldly" religious teachings creep into American textbooks.

Look around Blogster's political channel. Go to the MySpace forum. Do you see one liberal concerned about schools teaching the Muslim Religion in American classrooms? I did not see one. But if you search 'Google'- "Separation of church and state," you will find 4,310,000 hits on the topic.

So clearly, (with 4 million hits) the topic is important to Americans. But why is it that only a few lonely conservatives are asking- "Hey, why are we teaching our kids about the Muslim religion in public schools..?"

One such Oregon parent, Kendalee Garner, objected to having her son being taught Islam, including the memorization of the "Five Pillars" of Islam and dressing up as a Muslim.

Another (multicultural spasm) happened at Byron Union School District in California, where students were instructed to "become Muslims" for a day because it was considered "cultural education."

This one I love..

Textbooks by Houghton Mifflin's- "Across the Centuries" and "Patterns of Interaction" have come under criticism. Let's look at a passage from: "Patterns of Interaction"

"In Islam, following the law is a religious obligation. Muslims do not separate their personal life from their religious life, and Islamic law regulates almost all areas of human life. Because of this, Islamic law helped to bring order to Muslim states…"
Hold on there a minute..
Order to Muslim states..?? Order to Muslim states?
Name one freaking example of ORDER in any Muslim state. (OK, maybe there are a couple.) But most seem to be on the verge of revolution at any given moment.
This is a "wish list." This is not fact. It should not be in a textbook.
Let's continue..
"..It provided the state with a set of values that shaped a common identity. In addition to unifying individual states, law helped to unify the Muslim world. Even though various Muslim states might have ethnic or cultural differences, they lived under a common law.."

Oh Yea,

I will believe that when I see it. And I haven't yet seen any of what Houghton Mifflin is speaking about. This should not be in a factual textbook. That whole paragraph is a "hope" and a "wish" or a "dream." But it was written as to be fact. It would be deceiving to a child.

I want to do a little test here.

This will be for my liberal readers. If you are conservative, this exercise will already be understood. Conservatives can skip this next part.

---------------------------------------------

OK.

Here is what I am going to do. I am going to use Mifflin's words, but substitute the word Christianity for Muslim. This will be fun..!!

"In Christianity, following the law is a religious obligation. Christians do not separate their personal life from their religious life, and Christian law regulates almost all areas of human life. Because of this, Christian law helped to bring order to the Western states. It provided the state with a set of values that shaped a common identity. In addition to unifying individual states, law helped to unify the Christian world. Even though various Western states might have ethnic or cultural differences, they lived under a common Christian law.."

Now come on my liberal friends..

While you were reading that, weren't you thinking..

"Oh yea, is that why those Catholic Priests are molesting Alter Boys..? To create order?"

"Is this why Christians went on a killing spree during the "Crusades?" To create order?"

That's what you were thinking, wasn't it..??

This is how I view the teaching of Islam in American schools.

Now we are on the same page. We have a level playing field.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If we are going to have separation of church and state, then it must be a total separation. We cannot let one or two religions sneak in there because we "feel bad."

If we are going to let the Muslim religion be introduced into the American classrooms, then lets put our 'old buddy'- God- back in there as well. What is fair, is fair. That's all I ask.

"How can Islam slip into the public school system while we are fighting a war against radical Islamic terrorists..??"

I ask that question myself, however…

We conservatives can be some-what dense when it comes to "why things are the way they are."

Let me explain my theory…

Liberals are fond of saying conservatives DO NOT CARE how the world views The United States. "Republicans run off- shooting their guns in the air like a bunch of cowboys. Drinking and pissing in our neighbors back yards."

There may be some truth in that.

I do not really care if some French Guy hates America. "What have the French done for us lately" is my philosophy.

But can it also be said that liberals go over-board in trying to make everybody "LIKE" America?

The reason Islamic teachings are slipping into the American school system is because liberal educators and text book editors FEEL BAD about current world situations. They are trying to make amends for what they feel is a wrong direction we Americans are taking. "If we just understand these people, then maybe everyone can get along."

OK.. OK.. I guess I should show PROOF in that theory. I am asking the reader to believe that the school system is primarily liberal. Where is the proof..??

If you already believe the American school system is primarily liberal. Skip this next part.

--------------------------------------------

Let's take a look at a poll of American educators. (This poll was conducted by the "Study of Popular Culture." Ivy League faculty were polled…)

When asked who was the greatest president in the last 40 years, a majority of Ivy League faculty answered- Bill Clinton.

When asked who their political party affiliation was, the Ivy League faculty answered: 3% said republican, 57 % said democrat, the rest answered other or independent.

When you poll the American people, you come up with 34% being republican, 36% being democratic, the rest being-other / independent.

The Ivy League faculty strongly oppose funding a new Missile Defense system- 70% opposed it. 14% like the funding.

When you poll the American people, you get the opposite response. 70% of Americans want to fund a missile defense system, 26% do not care for the idea.

When asked whom they voted for in the 2000 election, 80% of the Ivy League faculty voted for Al Gore, only 9% voted for George Bush.

I just hi-lighted a few responses. This poll asked many more questions, but the responses are similar in the fact that most educators lean liberal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you listen to talk radio, Fox News, or any of the conservative outlets, you will hear us conservatives bitch about the "liberal media bias", "liberal educators", and career democratic politicians.

We bitch like it is liberal's fault. IT ISN'T LIBERAL'S FAULT that a majority of educators, journalists, and career politicians are liberals. It is us- conservatives- It is our fault. Because we didn't get more involved in those fields.

During the 60's, there was a split in America philosophy that divided Americans. There were some young people who felt that mom and dad, grandpa and grandma had done fine and there wasn't a reason to change much. But there was a young group of people who felt that change was needed. Drastic change. These young people felt the best way to change America was to get involved in- "You guessed it…"

Politics, Journalism, and Education

The young conservatives of that day didn't feel a need to change things much and they headed into other fields like the corporate and business world.

So.. Yes, of course there are more liberals in journalism and education. And who's fault is that..?? Is it the liberals fault..?? They did what they felt they should do to change the world.

Things are changing.

More conservatives are getting into journalism. Proof of that is Fox News is the number one cable news network in America. Conservative Talk dominates radio opinion shows. Conservative businessmen are buying Newspapers like "The Boston Globe."

Gone are the days when a conservative had to hide a copy of National Review, folded up under their arm. We do not have to search the airwaves for some distant AM station that might carry conservative talk radio, and then turn down the volume if someone enters the room.

Education will take much longer because professors have tenure. But more conservatives will enter the field in the future.

However,

Today, we must seriously look into the textbooks kids are using, If we are going to promote separation of church and state it must include all religions.

If we teach about the Muslim religion, then we must also teach about other religions and stop claiming America has a strict separation of church and state.

Here I was... thinking everything was just peachy... and then I had to read this downer of a blog.

Now, I know that I'm to blame for this whole mess. Whew.. its sure been a bummer of a day. [SAD]

    Sorry,
I didn't mean to bring you down. I forgot to mention in the article that a California court ruled in favor of a school having a "Muslim Day" for it's students. Because it is "cultural."

That probably didn't make things better? Did it?

Very good AR!! Your point about the 1960's is EXACTLY why I use the screen name "psycho60's". [SMILE][COOL] That is when the whole country went crazy and lost it's foundation. Been a fight ever since. Glad I've got people like you and Bob and Joe and a number of others who still have their wits about them. I won't mention the others who are not just anti-Republican/conservative...they are also anti-Christian. If they would spend more time seeking God and His way for their lives, they would understand much more about what you said in this post. This may just be the best post I've ever seen of yours...kudos...and all of that stuff.

    Later....appreciate you hard work....Scott [THUMBUP][THUMBUP]

Well Thank You for saying that[SMILE]

I enjoy this stuff. To me, heading out the door on Monday morning and punching the timeclock is the hard work. (I would like to give that up.)

    Nawww. I like my job!

Thats it? I can't argue with the fact that some schools teach culture's and most teachers are liberal.

Well I did enjoy the graphics, so how about 3 minutes back?

Absolutely infuriating! Just imagine having had a "Nazi Day" in the 40s.

    "Nazi Day"
    Yea, that does sound strange.
I don't believe that generation would even think of it.
  • fixed845inc said 1 years ago
Exceptional composite. This is something I was not aware of. Thanks for opening my eyes. It's one thing to teach about all different cultures but going into details about one religion only goes beyond the pale. [MAD]
  • AngryRepublican said 1 years ago
    Thanks,
I agree with you. If they want to show kids what other religions are all about. That is fine, but show the kids all the religions, not just one.
  • fatwhitecow said 1 years ago
[THUMBUP]Hey I just wanted to thank you for bringing attention to my problem in Nyssa, Oregon I am that parent who's child was forced to learn Islam, to dress up as a Muslim act out the five pillars. A Muslim woman came to class dressed in full religious garb gave extra credit to the kids if they would put on the hijab and burka. No such things happened for any other religions. No Jew, No Christian, Budhist, Hindu was given the same opputrtunity. None. This is a town of only 2500 people so if it could happen here it could happen anywhere! Yikes! I'm still fighting the fight. They are stubborn liberals who think they have done nothing wrong.
  • AngryRepublican said 1 years ago
You are welcome. The web site- World Net Daily is where I picked up some facts for this story.
I am stunned to hear that took place in your child's school. Or any American school, for that matter. I have been lectured by liberals on how important "separation of church and state" is in America. For some reason people want to claim that teaching the Muslim religion is "cultural", as opposed to being religious.

Can I ask, was anything done in that case..?? Did they sweep it under the rug..?? Or is it still pending..??

    Thanks!

Most who read my blog know that I hate all religions equally... but I'm sure you know the difference between learning about a religion and actually practicing it. If it is true that kids are being forced to practice Islam (which I doubt) then I'd be right there with ya on this. But it is likely that you are making this out to be more than it is.

This reminds me of the sex education debate. Many traditionalists fear that by teaching sex in schools, kids are going to want to try it, when every study and indication reveals that it has the opposite effect. Why do we want television or pop culture teaching our children about relevant issues like sex or religion when we have the opportunity to give them real facts in public school?
  • manning said 1 years ago
Becuase the teachers are liberal while the people in Hollywood are...liberal. Ok well at least the news is...liberal too. Kind of amazing actually how liberals control every aspect of our culture but can't win an election. Then again the youth is largely liberal, and largely apathetic to politics. Take health care from old people and drive up the cost of prescription medicine and you might just take the House.
  • AngryRepublican said 1 years ago
Teaching the "Five Pillars" of Islam doesn't sound like a cultural learning experience to me. It sounds more like a "beginners" Islamic seminar.

Would you object to a "Christian Day" where your kids get to dress like their favorite Apostle (for extra credit) and they learn about the ten commandments and study a couple of Christian prayers..??

At present time, I will admit I only have a handful of examples. But people are just beginning to complain about it. I think more will come from this.
  • liberalfreak said 1 years ago
I would not object to a "Christian Day" as you describe it. Children should learn about all of the major religions, as it would help them understand their peers a little better, those who come from other cultures. If parents object to this, then they might as well home school their kids because they obviously don't want them exposed to the real world.
  • AngryRepublican said 1 years ago
Well then we agree on this point. As long as they spend equal time on each religion. That is fine.
