Ex-FEMA Chief Says Bush Was Overconfident

Here we go again!

Another "Smoking Gun!"

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush remained engaged during Hurricane Katrina but was overconfident that the Federal Emergency Management Agency could handle the destructive aftermath based on its record in previous disasters, former federal disaster chief Michael Brown said Wednesday.

This meeting means nothing. When I was in school, we learned that New Orleans was protected by levees and a storm could destroy them.

On Tuesday, more than one day before Katrina hit, President Bush went on TV and warned people to evacuate. If state and local officials didn't act quickly and get those people out of there, they have only themselves to blame.

I guess we need to put the picture back up of the flooded busses in New Orleans (Which could have been used by Mayor Nagin to remove people.) The second picture is from Texas when they removed people to safety in another hurricane.

Blame the ones responsible! The mayor and city officials for not getting those people out of New Orleans. They had the means!

Agreed -- I have noticed, lately, that Michael Brown has been very busy trying to point the blame to anyone but himself. I believe that the e-mail exchange shows us exactly what Brown is/was -- A prima donna worried more about his "looks" and shopping at Nordstrom's than about doing his job in the middle of a crisis. Firing him was one of the best moves made by President Bush!

...and hiring him in the first place was one of Bush's worst moves.

Well, ok, by comparison he's had a lot worse, but it was still a bad idea.

Yes they sure did have the means. I have these phots of the buses in an e-mail I got back during that time.

michael brown lack the cohones (pardon my language and my grammar if i mispelled it) to take responsilbility.[THUMBDOWN]

Yea!! He padded his resume. Never really took control of FEMA. Now he is blaming the whole thing on Bush.

I have never figured out why Bush hired him in the first place?
    Thanks for the comment

Doesn't Michael have a job anymore. Seems he's spending a lot of time passing the buck?
  • AngryRepublican said 2 years ago
That's a good question! I haven't heard what Brown is doing these days? (Other than showing up in court and pointing the finger)

It's in the culture, screw up and look around for someone to blame..."nice job Browny"

    Isn't that the truth!
    It's a shame!

I recently got a forward showing different levees in different countries then showing the ones in New Orleans. It then stated that the poor state of the levees was Bush's fault and that he didn't do enough to save the people of New Orleans. My response to this was similar to this:
-Bush was not the one who built the levees. (if you're going to blame a President, I believe it was Clinton)
    - Bush warned New Orleans and other places to evacuate and also had told states to prepare to take care of themselves for 3 days while help comes
    - New Orleans knew for a long time that they were going to be hit. They had more time to evacuate then Mississippi did (which got hit head on at the last minute)

If we're going to blame any person, you're right.. we should blame the mayor and city officials. They failed to do their job so they're blaming Bush.
    Good job [THUMBUP]

I agree and thanks for the comment!

I read a book on the levees. One member of the Army Core of engineers said M5 hurricane proof levees in New Orleans is impossible because the silt is so deep, they cannot find 'bedrock' to anchor in. Some say you can build them.
If I lived in New Orleans, I think I would high tail it out of there if any hurricane was approaching. Even if I had to walk.
  • crazycat said 2 years ago
Well sometimes i wonder if we should bother rebuilding. What's gonna happen if it gets hit by another strong hurricane? It's just going to flood again.
  • AngryRepublican said 2 years ago
    I agree!
Donald Trump wants to fill the whole area in and raise it above sea level. (He needs financing to do that!)

I think that's a good idea. i also liked his idea of rebuilding the twin towers, but making them taller instead of the memorial building.. too bad that didn't work [GLARE]
