Let's see if you are conservative…
There are a lot of people running around in my party who are trying to define what a conservative is. Some claim if you will vote for McCain, then you are dropping your principals and values, therefore- you are not conservative.
Well, let's quit playing games and find out- once and for all-
Who is conservative.
Take this simple test and answer true or false to each question.
You are pro-life. You do not agree with abortion. You believe any politician who votes for a pro-choice law IS NOT conservative and should not run our party- (true or false)
Do you feel that amnesty for illegal aliens is wrong and any politician who votes for amnesty cannot be conservative and cannot run our party? (true or false)
Do you feel that raising taxes is wrong and any politician who raises taxes cannot be a true conservative and should not run our party? (true or false)
Do you feel that anytime terrorists attack Americans, we must fight back and never run from them? If a leader runs from terrorists, they are not conservative and should not lead our party? (true or false)
If you answered TRUE to any one of those questions above, you have just eliminated Ronald Reagan as a conservative. You have just stated that Ronald Reagan cannot lead our party.

(As governor of California, Ronald Reagan raised taxes, signed on to pro-choice abortion laws. While president, Reagan granted amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens and when attacked by Hezbollah in Beirut, Reagan pulled US troops out- without a fight.)
The greatest conservative president in my lifetime, and you eliminated him by your "so-called" rules of who is conservative.
But let's move on..
True or false-
Do you believe that any republican who signs a bill or agreement with democrats has crossed the aisle and cannot be trusted as a true conservative? (true or false)
If you answered TRUE, you have just eliminated George W. Bush, Newt Gingrich, George H. Bush.

If you answered TRUE to some of the question on this page, you have eliminated Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and John McCain.
(You are not leaving many people to pick from here..)
Let's continue.. (true or false)
Do you believe that if someone is caught abusing drugs and / or alcohol, and has to entered a rehab, that person is NOT very responsible and not showing good leadership qualities? They should NOT lead our conservative movement? (true or false)
If you answered TRUE, you have just eliminated Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck as conservative leaders.
Man, I will tell you what…
The rules you have set down to what you believe a conservative is: has eliminated every freaking person on the globe including Rush Limbaugh and Ronald Reagan.
As I have been saying for a month now, I will be voting for Mitt Romney. However, I will vote for John McCain if he wins the nomination.
I'm not going to cut down people if they feel they do not want to vote because they have "McCain- derangement- syndrome."

Great people fought and died for your right to vote. (or not to vote.) That is your choice.
If conservatives stay home on Election Day, republicans will lose this election. That is for sure.
Do not be foolish enough to think we will (naturally) get the presidency back in 4 years. There is no guaranty. Study the 2000 election. We almost lost that election, which would have given us 12 years of democratic rule. President Clinton was impeached, and yet- Gore almost won that election. You cannot say- "give it to the democrats and they will screw up and we will get it back.." That may not happen for 8 or 16 years.
Your self-imposed grudge against McCain is not worth giving the democrats a possible 8 years in the White House.
You have a right to vote, or not vote. I am not going to look down on anyone for what they do in this election because it has been so bizarre.
Let me tell you a quick story and then I will shut up.
Remember the 2004 election..??
Remember John Kerry walking out at the Democratic Convention, saluting and telling the crowd: "I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty.."
(I thought to myself- "How corny..")
Then, I remember the Republican Convention when Rudy Giuliani spoke. It was powerful. He was "America's Mayor." Then Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke. One of the top Hollywood box-office draws, and he proudly called himself a republican. Then, to top it off, Zell Miller (a democrat) spoke at the Republican Convention. He ripped into the Democratic Party. I felt so proud to be republican.

I thought to myself- "What a great party we have. Arnold and Zell Miller feel comfortable at the republican convention." We were great then. We also won the election that year.
Today, we are very selective. We are a small "click" of people who must pass some kind of test.
A test that nobody can possibly pass. (As I just proved with the questions above.)
What a shame…

Ironically, it was TODAY, in 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, was born in Tampico, Ill.
However, YOU eliminated Reagan as a true conservative with your: "who is a true conservative" test, so his birthday shouldn't mean anything to you.

Wow that is quite a post AR!!! I hope we aren't left with McCain but I will vote Republican. I have much admiration for Ronald Reagan.

When you look at the current "test" that conservatives are using to say John McCain is not a conservative, President Reagan would NOT pass this same test.
I'm not happy about McCain being the front runner because he doesn't line up with the direction I would like to see this country take. However, I really-really do not care for the direction that Obama or Hillary will take this country.
McCain is set to speak at CPAC today and there are things that he can say and do, that will put some people at ease.
Isn't it something how things change. Obama looked like he was out of it, but now I believe they are neck and neck.
(I think Obama is getting money coming in. At least that is what I heard.)
I want to keep Hillary and Barack out of the oval office as much, if not more, than most People out there. But I have a serious problem with McCain. He tried to ram that evil amnesty bill down my throat and it's still stuck in my craw. Every citizen who tried to oppose that bill was brutally insulted by his "let them eat cake" response. He does not respect The People and he holds anyone in contempt who resists his authority.
I simply don't know if I will be able to walk into a voting booth in November and cut my own throat just because the man represents a party that no longer represents me.
We all have to do what we think is right.
For 30 years now, I have not cared for the direction the democrats have taken and I would hate to do something that gives them the victory.
Thanks for the comment!!
As I write this I suspect that your post was written before Romney decided to suspend his campaign. I was able to listen to his speech before CPAC as it happened, and I have to tell you - the man is the most Presidential person we have and it breaks my heart to see him give up. However, at the same time, I understand his position and the fact he is removing himself for the good of the party and the country. In many ways, it reminds me of the Old Testament story involving King Solomon, the two women and the baby. The two women both claimed they were mother of the child, and so King Solomon finally declared that what he would do is cut the baby in half and each woman could have a piece. Of course, the true mother cried out that she would give the child to the other person rather than see the baby be killed.
If John McCain would wise up he would ignore whatever backroom deal he has with Upchuck Huck and wisely choose Mitt Romney to be his running mate. I suspect that would be a ticket that would more than heal the rift that has developed within the party. Plus you'll have someone smart enough to deal with the economy because McCain has admitted he's not up to snuff on that aspect of being President. McCain also needs to curtail the arrogance - if you look at the popular vote numbers he's not that far ahead of Romney - only the fact that most of our states are winner take all in the primaries has helped McCain. If he ran with Romney even I would feel easier voting for him.
I was a Republican for many years. So please don't hold it against me that I changed parties.
